Botox® is a household name and the secret behind some of Hollywood’s smoothest faces. However, Botox® isn’t just for celebrities. Moreover, it isn’t the only neuromodulator treatment available to correct expression lines. At Associates in Dermatology, our expert teams in Westlake, Middleburg Heights, and Lorain, Ohio, are pleased to offer additional options to our neighbors. We tailor treatment to your specific needs and goals, restoring the smooth skin that fuels your most confident self and overall wellness.
What treatments do you offer for expression lines?
In addition to Botox®, our providers are highly trained in and experienced with injecting Dysport® and Jeuveau®. While Botox® may be the “original” neuromodulator for cosmetic use, these treatments are evolving constantly. Each product is formulated differently. Our team understands the nuances between products and can recommend the best option(s) to help you look your best.
What is a neuromodulator?
These treatments are formulated with a type of botulinum toxin, which is designed to interrupt the chemical process responsible for expression lines. Every time you squint, frown, or smile, the muscles under the skin contract due to the release of the acetylcholine chemical from the nerve cells. When this movement is repeated many times, your skin loses its ability to recover. It remains creased. Additionally, creases can become static features of your face due to the loss of elastin over time. Elastin is a protein that gives skin its flexibility. When the release of this chemical is disrupted, the muscles remain relaxed. The overlying skin stays smooth.

What is Dysport®?
The FDA first approved Dysport® to treat horizontal forehead creases and vertical “frown lines” between the eyebrows. Since then, our injectors have successfully used the product hundreds of times to support our patients’ renewed, healthy, youthful, and vibrant look.
How is Dysport® different from Botox®?
Dysport® differs from its pioneering counterpart, Botox®, in both the potency of trace proteins and in how it diffuses into the targeted tissues. This potency and diffusion mean you may see improvements in the appearance of your lines, wrinkles, and creases sooner than with Botox®. However, there are trade-offs with these products. While you may notice the results faster, improvements may last longer with Botox®. You may require more frequent “touch-ups” with Dysport® as the effects could wear off sooner. It’s important to note that every patient metabolizes these products differently. Your experience is unique, so these are just generalized observations.

How is Dysport® injected?
Like other neuromodulators, Dysport® is injected precisely into the targeted muscles responsible for the specific lines you want to soften. Our highly qualified providers use precision techniques and ultra-fine, sterile needles to apply Dysport® into exact points of the face. So, only those wrinkle-triggering muscles are treated. The muscles do not contract, and the skin remains smooth.
What areas does Dysport® treat?
In addition to the vertical furrows between the eyebrows and the horizontal lines on the forehead, Dysport® has been injected to improve the appearance of creases around the eyes (crow’s feet) and on the bridge of the nose (bunny lines). It is an appropriate treatment for “smoker’s lines” around the mouth, marionette lines that descend from the corners of the lips, chin dimples, and horizontal neck bands.
What are the benefits of Dysport®?
Most of our patients tolerate injections well. Typically, no numbing is required. We can also complete treatment in less than 30 minutes. Due to the non-invasive nature of treatment, there is essentially no downtime. Common side effects include temporary and mild injection-site tenderness, numbness, and headache. With little more than periodic “touch-ups,” natural results can be maintained. Repeated treatment requires less product and fewer injections as the targeted muscles are “retrained.” Dysport® can also be safely incorporated into a broader skin rejuvenation plan, including soft tissue fillers (for a nonsurgical or liquid facelift), microneedling, chemical peels, and laser therapy.
Why should I trust my Dysport® treatment to Associates in Dermatology?
Our providers’ high skill level and experience support a comfortable, safe experience and the most natural results. However, our injectors are also experienced in combination protocols. What this means is we can combine different modulators so that you can enjoy the unique benefits of each, both a long-lasting treatment and quicker results.
