Soft Tissue Fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like materials that are injected into unwanted folds, creases, and wrinkles to provide a more youthful appearance. Fillers can be used to augment the lip lines and the lips themselves, to fill creases and lines around the mouth, and to replace the volume loss in the cheek areas that naturally occurs with aging.

The administration of dermal fillers is sometimes referred to as "soft tissue augmentation".

Treatment with a dermal filler is often combined with other beauty-enhancing procedures, such as botulinum toxin (Botox or Dysport), which can prolong their aesthetic effects.

Restylane

The Restylane family of products includes Restylane-L and Perlane-L®. These products can be used individually to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).

A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles.

Important Safety Consideration of Restylane®

Restylane® restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth(nasolabial folds). After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days. Although rare, red or swollen small bumps may occur. If you have had facial cold sores before, an injection can cause another outbreak. In rare circumstances, the doctor may inject into a blood vessel, which can damage the skin. To avoid bruising and bleeding, you should not use Restylane® if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years, you should not use Restylane®.

Restylane® should not be used by people with previous bad allergies, particularly to certain microorganisms known as gram positive bacteria; by people with previous bad allergies, to drugs that I have required in-hospital treatment; or by people with bleeding disorders.Restylane® should not be injected anywhere except the skin or just under the skin.
Patients should be limited to 6.0 mL per treatment. The safety or effectiveness of Restylane® for the treatment of anatomic regions other than nasolabial folds has not been established in controlled clinical studies.
The use of Restylane®at the side of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. Use of Restylane® in these instances could delay or make your skin problems worse.
Restylane® is available only through a licensed practitioner. Complete product and safety information is available at

Radiesse

Radiesse™ is a biocompatible, non-toxic, non-allergenic filler that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth and nose. Radiesse™ is made of a synthetic substance containing microspheres of calcium hydroxylapetite.

Calcium hydroxyapatite is an inorganic substance similar to bone. No animals or animal products are used during its production, and no skin testing is needed. With proper technique and local anesthesia, the injections are not very painful. There may be some bruising or minimal swelling after the procedure, which usually subsides in 24 to 36 hours.

When injected into the deep dermis and subcutis, Radiesse™ provides a matrix into which the body's own tissue can grow and add volume. In this way, it is used for soft tissue augmentation (e.g. adds volume to cheeks), and can help to fill in deep skin folds and wrinkles. A small needle is used to implant the Radiesse™. Topical and/or local anesthetic is used for pain control during injections.

Radiesse™ injections have been shown to last for over a year. However, individual results may be affected by age, skin type, lifestyle, and muscle activity. Some patients may achieve an optimal correction on their first injection. For other patients, variability in the rate of tissue in-growth following reabsorption of the gel carrier may require additional injections to achieve an optimal correction.
